The Hannah Marks music series continues at Green Lung Studio.
My Tree is an eclectic musical collaboration that straddles the boundaries of R&B, indie rock, and jazz. When algorithms are decoding more music into homogeneous playlists, My Tree challenges this norm to bring music and people of disparate worlds together. Press from 2017's full-length release After Glow described the music as "Seductive, interstellar funk” [Okayplayer] and an "experimental blend of indie rock, jazz, funk, and dream pop” [The Deli Magazine] with “the perfect mix of skill and energy to keep you hooked from start to finish" [Earmilk]. Featuring acclaimed alto-saxophonist and flutist Caroline Davis in a different role as a vocalist, and keyboardist Ben Hoffmann, this collaboration features songs that seek to uplift, while pointing to the current challenges we face in the United States. My Tree is the soundtrack for the inevitable ushering in of the new world order.
Heavily influenced by her love for punk, noise, and free improvisation, NYC bassist Hannah Marks’ Outsider, Outlier Band is a departure from her usual chordless jazz trio format. The project revolves around lyrics and music depicting pivotal events in Marks’ search for belonging and empowerment. Fans of her previous groups Tide Pools and Heartland Trio will enjoy the same raw energy from the band as well as a new level of vulnerability reflected in the bandleader’s compositions. She was commissioned by The Jazz Gallery twice in 2020 to create original music videos for their Lockdown Sessions series as an extension of this project. Recent shows with the band include The Jazz Gallery and Old Greenwich Presbyterian Church.
