You wake up to sand in your shoes and and a sun that feels like flames licking your back and forehead. Golden sands run into the horizon. You see a table set with a basket of oranges. Two figures are seated at the table. They speak and sing, conjuring an intricate tapestry of images; a smooth, white kitchen, a dam that breaks, flooding the desert with water.

You’re in Myrtle World.

Myrtle is the collaborative songwriting project of Claire Dickson and Camila Ortiz. Through narrative, vocally-driven pop, Myrtle moves between dream worlds and fractured internal states.

Green Lung Studio Presents Hannah Marks' Outsider, Outlier Band & My Tree

The Hannah Marks music series continues at Green Lung Studio.

My Tree is an eclectic musical collaboration that straddles the boundaries of R&B, indie rock, and jazz. When algorithms are decoding more music into homogeneous playlists, My Tree challenges this norm to bring music and people of disparate worlds together. Press from 2017's full-length release After Glow described the music as "Seductive, interstellar funk” [Okayplayer] and an "experimental blend of indie rock, jazz, funk, and dream pop” [The Deli Magazine] with “the perfect mix of skill and energy to keep you hooked from start to finish" [Earmilk]. Featuring acclaimed alto-saxophonist and flutist Caroline Davis in a different role as a vocalist, and keyboardist Ben Hoffmann, this collaboration features songs that seek to uplift, while pointing to the current challenges we face in the United States. My Tree is the soundtrack for the inevitable ushering in of the new world order.

Heavily influenced by her love for punk, noise, and free improvisation, NYC bassist Hannah Marks’ Outsider, Outlier Band is a departure from her usual chordless jazz trio format. The project revolves around lyrics and music depicting pivotal events in Marks’ search for belonging and empowerment. Fans of her previous groups Tide Pools and Heartland Trio will enjoy the same raw energy from the band as well as a new level of vulnerability reflected in the bandleader’s compositions. She was commissioned by The Jazz Gallery twice in 2020 to create original music videos for their Lockdown Sessions series as an extension of this project. Recent shows with the band include The Jazz Gallery and Old Greenwich Presbyterian Church.

Stimmerman | Elora Aclin

Green Lung Studio continues our music series curated by bassist Hannah Marks.

Stimmerman makes music that's basically rock music (because the music rocks) but there's a lot of heady stuff in there for the nerds, and lots of emotions in there for the emos and the freaks (we're all of the above) also there are jokes sometimes.

Elora Aclin is a 23-year-old singer-songwriter born and raised in New York. While she first intended on pursuing a career in vocal jazz, she fell in love with writing during her studies at The New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music. She had the opportunity to study with artists Kate Davis and Vilray as she released her first EP ‘Hello Crow.’ This was an incredibly valuable experience which lead her deeper into the recording arts. By the time of the pandemic she began producing her own music. It was through this experience that she was able to create the songs that represented her best, combining folk rock, psychedelia, and pop. Elora is currently recording her first album titled ‘Pitfall,’ comprised of songs written while quarantined in Brooklyn, New York.
